Turquoise

One of the oldest stones known to humans, it is known to be a healer and protector. Its also believed to bring good fortune. You can also use this stone to release old behaviors.

AKA: “Stone of Purification”

Color: Sky blue to greenish blue

Origins: Australian, Chile, China, Egypt, England, France, Germany, Iran, Mexico, Russia, Tibet, Turkmenistan, United States

Formation: Consists of hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminum with veinlets of brown limonite or black manganese oxide. It occurs in aluminous, igneous or sedimentary rocks under immense change usually in arid climates. 

Benefits: encourages intuition and assists meditation, it protects from harm, great for traveling as it alleviates anxiety of flying, promotes self-realization, it strengthens the meridians in acupuncture

Healing Properties: relieves stress, helps with depression, believed to heal migraines 

Chakra: Throat, Thymus, Third Eye

History: The name turquoise is the French word for “Turkish” because it came to Europe by way of Turkey from the mines of Iran. It has been mined for 3,000 years in Iran although there are stones found dating back to 6000 BCE in the Sinai Peninsula. The Ancient Egyptians used it for jewelry as did the North American Navajo, Zuni and Aztecs. The Navajo believed it fell from the sky. The Apache warriors wore turquoise to increase their hunting prowess.
